Determining the Iron Binding Properties of Polyphenol Antioxidants: Polyphenol compounds with catecholate or gallate groups greatly protect DNA from damage by binding to iron (II). Kinetics experiments were used to determine reaction rates, k, for the oxidation of iron(II) to iron(III) by O2 upon polyphenol binding as it relates to anti-oxidant properties.

Nutrient source(s) and cycling in highly leached and nutrient poor soils that support a diverse plant community: Geochemical analysis of soil samples from the West Coast National Park in South Africa was done. Sequential leaching experiments to isolate different fractions of the bulk soil. Analytical work involved ICP-MS for trace elements in the isolated fractions. Soil Characterization and clay mineralogical analyses using XRD.
