Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in biochemistry with a minor in philosophy from Washington and Lee University. At present, I am in the process of applying to medical schools. Inspired by my younger brother, who has a genetic disorder, and my experience with teaching special needs students, I hope to eventually become a pediatrician specializing in medical genetics. I began tutoring when I was still a middle school student, and have since served as a teaching assistant for introductory biology lecture and lab courses and mentored middle school students in academic skill development. I am dedicated to helping other students achieve their full academic potential. I strive to understand material my students find challenging from his or her point of view so that I can help the student understand in the way most conducive to his or her learning style. I aim to get my students to the point where they truly understand the material. I emphasize the importance of developing advanced writing and critical thinking skills as well, as these will both benefit students beyond their academic years. Though my background in the biological sciences assists me in tutoring biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and related IB-level courses, I can also help students in reading, essay editing, writing, and preparation for the MCAT, PSAT, and SAT. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, running, cooking, and playing soccer.
