Education
I earned my MFA in creative writing with a focus on fiction from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor's in English with a minor in writing in 2008, also from VCU. During graduate school I tutored students in the college writing center and also taught freshman composition and creative writing classes.
Experience
I have been teaching college composition, creative writing and literature for four years--seven if you count my time teaching as a graduate student. Having studied the language throughout high school and college, I am a proficient speaker of French and am able to tutor beginning and intermediate students. I am interested in tutoring because, as a "full-time" adjunct instructor, there are some semesters where enrollment is down and there just aren't enough classes available to make ends meet. Other semesters I'm swamped, teaching up to six classes at a time. Hopefully tutoring will help make ends meet when the course offerings are lean.

Hobbies
Though my degrees are in writing and I primarily teach writing classes, I am also well-versed in literature and literary analysis and I teach courses in World and American literature. I enjoy listening to music, cooking, reading and, of course, writing in my spare time. Before I decided get my Master's degree and pursue a career in academia, I worked as a summer camp counselor and a teacher in a before and after-school program. I work well with kids and adolescents as well as teenagers and young adults.
