I truly believe that anyone who thinks that they "just can't" learn a foreign language just hasn't found the right method; I can help with that. After all, we all master at least our native language, so the ability to learn is there! As a native English speaker who has studied various foreign languages (French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish), I understand which aspects of learning a foreign language can be hard to grasp or confusing for a language learner. I have a strong understanding of English grammar, especially in its relation to Spanish (verb tenses, syntax, parts of speech, etc.) and can explain the similarities and differences clearly. I would be an excellent tutor for a student in Beginning or Intermediate Spanish as I have a strong grasp of its grammar, orthography, and pronunciation. My patience and ability to recognize and build on someone's strengths in order to improve his or her weaknesses are key qualities that can help any student get past the frustrating aspects of learning something new or difficult. I've taken various linguistics classes that have widened my understanding of how languages function and how people learn them, as well as numerous Spanish and Latin American literature classes that have helped me strengthen my understanding of the nuances of the language. I have also written at least 25 essays in Spanish on which I have received no less than an A grade. I was also a very strong student in English, which was my initial major before I switched my focus to Spanish, so my help would be beneficial for a native Spanish speaker looking to learn or improve their skill in English. Only two classes away from my degree, I am looking ahead to finding employment related to my field of study, although I know I'll never stop learning more about the languages I love.
