I am a summa cum laude graduate of James Madison University (Communication Arts and English). I completed my MFA in directing and theatre literature from Virginia Commonwealth University (3.9 GPA) after attending Lancaster University in England for a year (theatre studies). I was a go-getter in high school too: 8th in my class, National Merit Scholarship finalist, accepted early into college.
Experience
Am I a teen whisperer? My friend's son had a dismal 56 average in English going into the mid-term exam in January. After two intensive sessions, he got a 94 on the exam, salvaging a "Peppermint Patty D" for the semester. Since then, we've continued meeting and he's maintained a 92 average in English. I was a classroom teacher for 23 years and my students were regularly accepted to top universities. I helped with essays and auditions, but I think they were pretty exceptional on their own. I was a 1999 Disney American Teacher Award honoree (for creative teaching practice). Why yes, this DID include a parade in Disneyland where I rode atop a float with Minnie Mouse, waving to unsuspecting tourists. (Thanks for asking).
