Hobbies

¡Hola! My name is Erica Beard, a native to the Richmond area and an enthusiastic, certified K-12 teacher. I have eight years of teaching experience across the k - 12 spectrum with a BA in Spanish language with a concentration in translation and interpretation from Virginia Commonwealth University, a certificate of Hispanic studies from the University of Salamanca, and a MAED in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in teaching English as a second language from the University of Phoenix. I have taught both the standard curriculum as well as in the International Baccalaureate program in the United States, Spain and Qatar. I believe what makes me successful as an educator is my ability to create a nurturing environment that challenges my students to inquire and develop a love for language learning. Growing up dyslexic, I never thought I would be a grammar teacher, however overcoming this obstacle has armed me with a knowledge in working with students who may not otherwise find language learning fun. I specialize in teaching students to harness the strengths of their individual learning style and approach each student with the understanding that no two children are alike. I focus on preparing students with 21st century skills, literacy and evidence-based learning while managing a creative, dynamic working environment. I look forward to the opportunity to work with your student and share my love for the Spanish language.
