Experience
My philosophy for teaching and tutoring revolves around an interactive approach. I offer as much concrete evidence as possible to involve my students in the teaching process while I ask them questions about what it is they are doing. I also find it of utmost importance to learn as much as I can about each individual student in order to create a tutoring program to meet their specific needs. Currently residing in Richmond, Virginia, I earned my BS in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida. I also have obtained certificates in exceptional student education (ESE), English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and English language learners (ELL). For 11 years, I taught in various ESE classrooms as well as in classrooms with children who had self-contained autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, I taught in traditional education classrooms for students in kindergarten and 3rd grade. A program called Homebound, which was sponsored by the local school district, allowed me to tutor students who missed an above-average number of days of school. I love tutoring students in grammar and mechanics, phonics, reading, English, and study skills. In my spare time, I like to cook and bake, watch sports, and spend quality time with my children and grandchildren.
