Experience

Experiences 6/2014 to present C2 education Richmond, VA I am currently responsible for tutoring students for the SAT, also providing assistance in reading, grammar, and essay writing. Company materials are utilized, as well as language based assigments brought in by the students. 11/2007 to 10/2013 Private English instructor Yokohama and Tokyo Japan Provided one on one and small group English lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. All lessons involved the use of textbooks, realia, and free conversation. 4/2004 to 10/2007 English instructor, NOVA corporation Yokohama, Japan For one on one and small group lessons, company written textbooks provided structure and guided real world conversation topics. NOVA also provided textbooks for those interested in business English. Teacher guided level check tests determined whether or not a student was able to advance to the next level. 4/1997 to 8/1998 Homebound teacher Henrico County Public Schools Visited special needs students in their homes or libraries to assist with GED preparation and general academic subjects. 1993 to 1994 SAT teacher Horizons Education Helped college bound students in their homes prepare for the SAT. Utilized a company generated textbook, following lessons chronologically and assigning homework. As for my own SAT score, I scraped by in mathematics at school with a C level at my own peril. My lack of proficiency affected my score, of course. I ended up with a 980. I was satisfied with that though, because it was good enough for VCU, about the only university I could afford. Tutoring is rewarding; it gives a student and the teacher an ideal environment to establish a meaningful rapport. The better I know my student, the better I can serve him or her. A relaxed atmposphere brings out the best in both. Being able to work one on one in quiet surroundings provides the opportunity to focus and concentrate. As a professional, I am able to watch the student progress, and consider ways to improve my own teaching.
