Linda K.
Private tutor in Richmond, VA
Education
I earned a B.A. in Honors English from University of Massachusetts in 1972. I went on to receive an M.Ed. from Worcester State University in 1977. My concentration was education.
Experience
I have over 30 years' experience as an English teacher of students from grade 2 to college. During my career I have taught all aspects of English/Language Arts, the skills and strategies for the language portion of the ACT/SAT, and an individualized approach to writing outstanding college entrance essays. I have guided students through literary analysis and formal writing assignments, including research papers. In virtually every class I have taught, I provided tutoring to my students. I designed and implemented unique strategies to meet each student's needs and learning style. In addition to tutoring daily studies, my specialty is assisting students compose and edit their college entrance essays. With my guidance, writing the dreaded college entrance essays becomes a more successful and less stressful experience which translates into improved writing skills in college and beyond. I also teach individual and small classes focusing on the skills and test-taking techniques needed to do well on the reading, grammar, and writing portions of the ACT/SAT. As a bonus, my students transfer this knowledge to their everyday schoolwork. Teaching is much more than my profession; it is my passion. Now that I am semi-retired, I am transferring my love of sharing knowledge to tutoring.
