Experience
Hi- my name is Julia and I am a recent 2013 graduate from the University of Virginia. I graduated this past May with a degree in Biology B.A., and have continued my education this past semester by taking Physiology and Biochemistry graduate courses at MCV. I began tutoring in high school, where I worked at Kumon Math and Reading Center as an instructor. I worked as a tutor there for 3 years, and have experience teaching students ranging from pre-k to high school. The reading subjects I taught included phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary. The math subjects ranged from basic math skills all the way up to advanced calculus. In college, I continued tutoring by volunteering with A Day in the Life Program at a Middle School in Charlottesville, VA. I continued tutoring math and English here to underprivileged middle school students. In addition, I was also selected by the Biology department to become a Peer Teacher for an Introductory Biology Lab. Here, I taught weekly Organismal and Evolution lab section by explaining anatomy and guiding 24 students through weekly dissections. I also helped the Teacher Assistant evaluate and provide feedback on weekly lab reports. Throughout several summers of my undergraduate career, I also tutored students for the SATs. My other skills include being fluent in Vietnamese and proficient in French. I have also played the piano since age 10, and can tutor beginner level students. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you!
